Bank Identification Number
Nigerian BVN requirements and application
Since January 2022 and in partnership with the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS), Ecobank Nigeria and Nigerians In Diaspora (NIDO) Greece, Global International has introduced the BVN enrolment service to facilitate its enrolment and make your life easier.
Bank Verification Number (BVN) is a scheme introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to protect customers' transactions and enhance confidence in the Nigerian banking sector. It involves identifying an individual based on physiological or behavioral attributes, such as fingerprint, signature and others. The customer's unique BVN is accepted as a means of identification across all the banking systems.
The importance of BVN has grown as increased lapses have been identified on conventional security systems such as token, password and Personal Identification Number (PIN) of customers.
Effective from 31st October 2015, customers WHO ARE YET TO COMPLETE THEIR BVN REGISTRATION would not be able to transact in any Nigerian bank, restrictions would be placed on their ATM use and Internet Banking access.
Please note: If you have enrolled for BVN previously, you cannot enroll again as it would not generate a new BVN. If you register again for the BVN there will not be any refund of fees.
THE BENEFITS
Though the CBN requires all Nigerian bank customers to apply, there are benefits to having your BVN registrations:
-
BVN gives a unique identity that can be verified across the Nigerian Banking Industry (not peculiar to one Bank) and is accepted as a means of identification across ALL Nigerian Banks.
-
BVN will address issues of identity theft, thus protecting Customers Bank Accounts from unauthorized access and exposure to fraud.
-
BVN will enhance the Banking Industry since blacklisted customers would be easily identified, this would sequentially encourage retail lending by mitigating identification and tracking issues.
